Gurudev Arts and Science College, established in 2002 in Mathil, is affiliated with Kannur University. It is one of the most reputed Catholic colleges, managed by the Corporate Educational Agency of the Catholic Diocese of Sulthan Bathery, Wayanad. His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Thomas serves as the Manager and Patron of the college. Starting with just 2 undergraduate (UG) courses, the college has grown to offer 14 UG courses and 5 postgraduate (PG) courses, achieving remarkable success and progress in both academic and co-curricular fields.

The college now imparts the light of knowledge to thousands of students, primarily from the rural areas of Kannur, Kasargod, and surrounding districts. It plays a vital role in fulfilling the higher education aspirations of many, contributing significantly to the overall development of the region. Excellence in educational performance and strong ethical values have established the college as a prestigious institution. Upholding its motto, "Lighted to Lighten," the college marches forward with vigor and vitality.

Gurudev Arts and Science College was founded by the Gurudev Educational and Charitable Trust, with Mr. M.V. Purushothaman as the Founder Chairman. Initially functioning from Safa Marva Tower in Payyanur, the college moved to its own building atop a scenic hill in Mathil town in 2003. The college expanded its course offerings and quickly became one of the top colleges affiliated with Kannur University.

In June 2012, the management of the college was transferred to the Malankara Catholic Diocese of Bathery, and His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Thomas became the Manager and Patron. This transition led to significant development in the college. The Decennial Anniversary celebration was inaugurated by His Beatitude Cardinal Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis Catholicos on 1st February 2012.

In 2014, the first PG course in Chemistry was introduced, followed by the addition of three more PG courses in the following years. In June 2017, the college inaugurated ‘Snehalaya,’ a state-of-the-art girls' hostel run by FSM Sisters, providing modern amenities. Later that year, in December, a well-equipped seminar hall named ‘Gitanjali’ was inaugurated by the Patron of the college, Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Thomas.

Currently, the college offers undergraduate courses in 14 disciplines across Science, Humanities, Commerce, Social Work, Business Administration, and Tourism. It also offers postgraduate courses in 5 subjects: Chemistry, Mathematics, Commerce, English, and Physics. With improved infrastructure and an array of curricular and co-curricular activities, the college is preparing for accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to further enhance the quality of education it offers.

Furthermore, Gurudev Arts and Science College has recently received approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), a significant milestone that further strengthens its commitment to providing quality education and expanding its academic offerings.
